There are 11 secret armor sets in total, and each one is locked behind a rare item. Some are purely random drops from material retrieval, while others require trading with specific villages. Here's my complete breakdown.
Kunafa
Unlock Material: Dalthydon Wool
Skills: Palico Rally Lv4, Wide-Range Lv4, Speed Eating Lv2, Free Meal Lv2.
I got my first Dalthydon Wool by trading with the Kunafa villagers. This set is all about eating and fighting alongside your Palico, making it perfect for support players. The wool itself is a random trade reward, so keep at it.
Azuz
Unlock Material: Azuz Tanned Leather
Skills: Heroics Lv3, Geologist Lv3, Maximum Might Lv2.
Trading with any of Azuz's traders eventually netted me some Azuz Tanned Leather. This set is for the strong and the miners, boosting your attack when you're in a pinch and helping you gather ore more efficiently.
Suja
Unlock Material: Suja Textiles
Skills: Divine Blessing Lv3.
The Suja set only has a waist piece, but it's a game-changer. With full Divine Blessing, you have a high chance to reduce damage taken. I got Suja Textiles from trading with Suja. It's a small set, but the protection is worth it.
Sild
Unlock Material: Sild Cotton
Skills: Wide-Range Lv4, Botanist Lv3.
Based on the Keepers' clothes, this set promotes gathering and ranged combat. I found Sild Cotton by trading with the people of Sild. It's great for keeping your distance and supporting allies.
Death Stench
Unlock Material: Sinister Cloth
Skills: Resentment Lv5, Ambush Lv3, Stun Resistance Lv2, Intimidator Lv2.
A returning favorite from older games, Death Stench lets you dress like the grim reaper. I got Sinister Cloth from Material Retrieval in Kunafa, or by trading with Kunafa or the Wudwuds. The skills are aggressive and perfect for hit-and-run tactics.
Butterfly
Unlock Material: Great Hornfly
Skills: Constitution Lv5, Evade Window Lv5, Evade Extender Lv3, Recovery Up Lv2, Recovery Speed Lv2.
This set gives you butterfly wings and incredible survivability. Great Hornflies can be found through many traders, especially the Wudwuds. I spent a lot of time trading to get enough for the full set.
King Beetle
Unlock Material: Great Hornfly
Skills: Heroics Lv5, Foray Lv3, Flayer Lv2, Poison Resistance Lv2, Paralysis Resistance Lv2, Sleep Resistance Lv1.
If butterflies aren't your thing, King Beetle uses the same Great Hornfly material but focuses on aggression. I crafted this after grinding Wudwud trades, and it's now my go-to for tough hunts.
High Metal
Unlock Material: Drearisite Scraps
Skills: Iron Skin Lv3, Stun Resistance Lv3, Bleeding Resistance Lv3, Blast Resistance Lv3, Partbreaker Lv3, Flinch Free Lv3, Bombardier Lv3, Aquatic/Oilsilt Mobility Lv2.
This set makes you an immovable tank. I got Drearisite Scraps from Material Retrieval in the Oilwell Basin. Note: this is different from the Drearisite you get from the Firespring Festival. The Partbreaker skill makes breaking monster parts a breeze.
Battle
Unlock Material: Scarred Scale
Skills: Marathon Runner Lv3, Hunger Resistance Lv3, Item Prolonger Lv3, Free Meal Lv3, Constitution Lv2, Sleep Resistance Lv2, Bind Resistance Lv2, Stamina Surge Lv2.
The Battle set is all about endurance. I acquired Scarred Scales from Material Retrieval in Suja. With boosted stamina and longer-lasting items, you can keep going forever.
Melahoa
Unlock Material: Great Hibiscus
Skills: Tool Specialist Lv3, Recovery Up Lv3, Recovery Speed Lv3, Survival Expert Lv3, Mushroomancer Lv3, Poison Resistance Lv2, Paralysis Resistance Lv2, Bleeding Resistance Lv2.
Styled after a plant, Melahoa lets you eat mushrooms for buffs and recover faster. I got the Great Hibiscus from Material Retrieval in Sild. It's perfect for nature lovers.
Commission
Unlock Material: Commission Ticket
Skills: Agitator Lv5, Divine Blessing Lv2, Quick Sheathe Lv2, Maximum Might Lv1, Tool Specialist Lv1, Earplugs Lv1.
This set is a throwback to Monster Hunter World, and it's one of the hardest to unlock. You need a Commission Ticket, which randomly appears in the Support Ship's inventory when it arrives in the Windward Plains. I waited patiently and chose Misc or Equipment materials to increase my chances. It's worth it for the utility.
Final Thoughts
Finding all these secret armor sets took me hundreds of hours, but it was worth it. Each set offers unique skills that can change how you hunt.
